ORIGIN DENOMINATION WINE: a growing market according to VALORITALIA.
Given the figures, 2021 was a year of strong growth for the Denomination of Origin wine market, with a value of about 10 billion euros, a 12 percent increase despite the health emergency and the widespread crisis.
What are wines with a denomination of origin?
A wine with a denomination of origin is a wine that carries a certificate guaranteeing its production within a specific wine region, and that the entire production process was carried out according to officially regulated quality criteria.
Among wines with a designation of origin, Pinot Grigio excels, followed by Brunello, Barolo and Franciacorta.
A success certified especially in exports: in fact, Germany stands as one of the largest consumers of our wines with designation of origin, with 64 percent having drunk at least one bottle of Italian wine in 2021.
WINE EXPORTS: A POSITIVE FIRST QUARTER 2022
Data from the Italian Wine Union Observatory attests to a growth of 18.3 percent, about 1.7 billion euros, for the first quarter of 2022.
A result not to be underestimated given the difficulties caused by the pandemic, the closure of some markets and the ongoing war.
A ranking that sees sparkling wines up 35.6%, while still wines up 14.8 %.

Italian Wine Union Secretary General Paolo Castelletti said:
“The numbers set by Italian wine, but also by French wine (which registers a +24% increase), are surprising: even more so if we take into account a 2021 in double digits. However, it is too early to tell what direction the market will take in the upcoming months, with potential demand increasingly plagued by an economic downturn and the escalation of the inflationary spiral. Add to this the rising cost of dry raw materials, which translates to an average spending surplus of more than 30 percent for companies, and it is important to maintain caution and avoid triumphalism that could be refuted in the coming months.”
What is the trend for sparkling wines in 2022?

The Italian bubbly market confirms the positive trends recorded in 2020 and 2021 in several countries around the world:
- USA
- Uk
- Germany
- Poland
- Canada
- France
- Belgium
- Japan
- Czech Republic
- Norway
What are the forecasts?
During the opening focus of Spumantitalia, emphasis was placed on the great success of sparkling wines, which blew away a roadmap that predicted production in the next two years of about 1 billion bottles. In 2021, +26% was recorded with 7 out of 10 bottles destined for foreign markets.

The pride of Ecometeo Italia
We are proud of these results, some of which we also feel are ours, because we have been on the front line alongside producers for many years with our measurement and control products dedicated to the wine industry.
That is because these results are achieved only when there is the right synergy between professionalism, raw materials and technology.
The goodness of our work, we can quantify it in the birth of new partnerships with Italian and European wineries that has brought, in 2021, an increase in turnover of the instrumentation branch of 21%.
We will continue to work to achieve ever greater results.
